Something about the previous incarnation was bugging me. It was hurting my eyes to look at. I couldn't pinpoint what it was until I viewed the video that I uploaded. There are sections where I desaturated the shadows. I think that was probably the right thing to do because the saturation of the shadows in the pic that I uploaded actually hurts my eyes.

Raven Sleepwalking
You know, I tried to make a video where I explained how this is a prime example of past success hindering future progress. In the video, you see me work on this and it's a struggle because I'm trying to make something similar to some of my past work. The problem is that I have a terrible speaking voice and I'm a shitty artist, so who gives a shit what I have to say. So I scrapped my voiceover in favor of music.Monday, December 5, 2011
Korra is a Tease

My "friends" tell me that they look forward to when I'm feeling depressed, because that's when I can pull work like this out of thin air with no effort. I had a bad day. Not the absolute worst, but just a day that makes me hate people while simultaneously leaving me a lonely. Thanks to this BS, which I hate talking about, this took all of an hour and a half, start to finish. I make work like this and just... feel better. I don't care if you see it as objectification. I really don't.

Hey, A cool thing
The animation in the clip on that site was actually made by my father. I find it kind of irritating that those commenting on the site are like "derp herp, Chuck Jones made it." No. It was Ken Mundie.
"YES WE CAN!
A 30-second, full animation commercial produced for Kellogg cereals was intended to celebrate the U.S. Bicentennial. It was created in collaboration with Ken Mundie, who directed the film and animated it with Paul Jessel and our staff."

Power Girl Panda
Made this after seeing a request for it on a draw thread on /co/. I normally don't do requests, but it was such a good idea, and the image popped in to my head fully formed. Whenever that happens, I just go with it. I recorded most of the creation of this, but windows movie maker is shit, and won't composite it without freezing.
I also share the sketch because I really like the way the sketch turned out. My illustration instructor has had us sketching with pen, and it has made me a better draughtsman. My lines are slowly becoming more confident. This is sketched in marker, but it's the same principle.

Cactus Girl Concepts

These are conceptual art pieces for a character and a stage from a fighting game. It's a game I've had stirring in my noodle for quite some time and it makes me wish I had the resources to actually make it.Also, someone liked the design enough to do some pose sketches for her.

This really hits the nail on the head when it comes to what I was thinking abuot the character . One thing that is constantly promoted in the Fine Arts school is this notion of the importance of the individual. It's yet another element that makes me realize that I'm not a Fine Artist. I dig the idea of working together in art. Movies, Animation, Videogames; these are all, essentially, collaborative arts. I love the idea of someone taking what I do and making it better and vise versa. So Kudos to http://hiivolt-07.deviantart.com/ a

Gally WIP 1 - Digital Imprimatura
This is a painting I was working on today. God, it feels so good to be doing a painting, instead of something cartoony, or pervy. I actually feel like an artist doing stuff like this. I tried to stream it, but Painter is such a CPU hog and I spent the better part of the day trying to fix that. I'm fairly annoyed with Painter. I love all of the stuff that it can do, but at this stage it's more of a resource hog than Photoshop, and that's disgusting.
Anyway, the inspiration for this is the fact that someone gave me a very generous donation to help me out of a financial jam. The only thing they said was that they wanted some commissions out of it, to be done at my leisure. They also gave me a link to a gallery of their favorite characters in anime, comics, movies, and tv.
The first thing that stuck out to me was Gally. Anyone who has read this manga knows how unbelievably amazing it is. Well, I'm not sure how Last Order has faired, I haven't been keeping up with it like I should. Anyway, point is, Gally is awesome.
Now one thing I'm looking for when I do something is whether or not I can draw a... connection... to my life. Many of the pin up girls I've drawn have actually been based on some amazingly gorgeous girls I know. You'll note that my Kim Possible looks nothing like Disney's Kim Possible, there is a reason for that.
One thing that was big in my household was speed skating. My father was actually a competitive speed skater back in the day, and even did it well in to his 70s. He had to quit because he tore his achilles tendon on a start up.
Anyway, there are paintings and photos all around my house, and one thing I always associated motorball with was speed skating. I know it's based on a Roller derby, and that a roller derby is nothing like speed skating, but this is the image that always conjured in my head when thinking about this section of the manga.
I'm having some technical problems in terms of the background, as I can't find my manga or any good refs to draw from. I'm planning to make it look like she just plowed through an enemy and their parts are flying everywhere.
I've also been really inspired by the pallete of Deus Ex. So I'm thinking of lighting this mostly with yellows and light oranges. Go for something monochromatic, but technical looking, similarly to Deus Ex. But that's once I leave the digital imprimatura stage.
The digital imprimatura stage is frustrating because you really have to let go. You have to trust yourself to fix what isn't working as it comes up, and follow your instinct about something look "basically" good. I genuinely do not know where or when I will move on to the next stage. We'll see.
Thanks for reading my babbling, I appreciate it. Take care.
